If you’re intrigued by the tiny house movement, or you watch any of the Tiny House shows on television, then Granny pods might be an enticing choice for you one day in the future. Granny pods are small prefab houses usually built on the property of a family home – and provide a very practical, and cheap, way to live close to family members, but also maintain much needed privacy and separation. These are a very clever alternative to the retirement home or assisted living community. For some of us, this might be a brilliant solution for our aging parents, or for our own futures. Check out Linda Funk’s granny pod in the video below. She’s only 65 and doesn’t need medical care; her benefit is being near her grandchildren while still maintaining privacy and separate living schedules from her son and daughter-in-law’s family.
If you think you’ll be ready sooner rather than later for the Granny Pod alternative, you can enter the Council on Aging’s 2nd Annual Tiny House Raffle to win a “big” tiny house. Bonus benefit: proceeds benefit Meals on Wheels. Ticket sales end June 30, 2017, but enter by December 31 to get lowest raffle ticket pricing.
