Wooter’s Hooters Are a Lesson in Friendship

cancer survivor - source roanokestarI ran across a blog post by a woman who had just completed three weeks of daily radiation treatments for breast cancer. Her name is Paula Larew Wooters, and she remarked that her radiation technicians told her they were delighted by her name, because they could say that they were treating “Wooter’s Hooters.”

This made me think about the similarities between having a team of medical professionals taking on and tackling your medical crisis, and having roommates who share your home with you. Like Paula’s radiation technicians, roommates are there with you, by your side so to speak, as you go through the ups and downs, and sometimes the pain, of your life. They don’t have to be informed about what’s going on, they don’t have to worry about what to say. They’re there. They are witnesses. They know. This can be a great comfort to you, even if they aren’t your best friends. Another of the healing benefits of living with others.
